Hyperbole was not spared by the victims’ lawyers, who call it the largest “fraudulent deal of assets in United States history.”
Despite all the legal jargon, J&J does not really think that the bankruptcy will endure. But it is a way of trying to push this $8.9 billion settlement to keep the pressure on plaintiffs.

The funders’ involvement is made public because of a New Jersey court rule requiring the release of certain details about funders outside the state.
