J&J company subsidiary LTL Management filed a bankruptcy plan in New Jersey late on Monday that outlines how the firm will pay various types of cancer victims as part of the bankruptcy settlement. The company is trying for another time to settle more than 38,000 cases in bankruptcy and stop new cases from coming forward in the near future.
The bankruptcy plan of LTL would pay $400 million into a separate trust for lawsuits filed by state attorneys general alleging that J&J had violated state unfair business practices and consumer protection laws through misleading consumers about the security of its talc-based products.

April 12, 2023 Update: People are wondering if J&J could file for bankruptcy again. The answer is complex and complicated. Let’s try to clarify the issue in a simple way.
Johnson & Johnson asserts that bankruptcy is the only way to settle both present and future talc litigations in a definitive manner. In other words, it believes that it will be less expensive if there is the bankruptcy element which applies pressure to settle. Is talc safe. Despite all the legal jargon, J&J does not really think this bankruptcy will survive. It is however a method of pushing this $8.9 billion settlement and keep the pressure on plaintiffs.

April 10 2023 Update: Bloomberg has an interesting article on a new law of New Jersey that is shedding new light on litigation funding in the suit for class actions. The funders who fund litigation Virage Capital Management and TRGP Capital invested in hundreds of lawsuits from Johnson & Johnson (J&J) on behalf of talc products. They exchanged for a percentage of any wins. J&J has now offered to pay $8.9 billion to settle any lawsuits.

The funders’ involvement is made public due to the New Jersey court rule requiring the release of certain details about funding sources outside of the.
